Boonedox transport wheels: Outpost and Terra fit

We can't guarantee compatibility with the Boonedox system because it's a top-loaded design — hull or rail damage is a known risk on any brand of kayak. The rails are securely mounted with brass inserts and machine screws, but we don't certify the Boonedox install.

We can't guarantee compatibility with the Boonedox system because it's a top-loaded design — and top-loaded carts have a high hull or rail damage rate on any brand of kayak, not just Cajo. The Outpost 128 and Terra 116 rails are mounted securely with brass inserts and machine screws, but we don't certify the Boonedox install on a Cajo.

What "we can't guarantee" actually means

It's not a "won't physically fit" answer. The Boonedox can be installed on a Cajo. Customers do it. The cart's gunwale clamps work on Cajo gunwales the same way they'd work on most kayaks of similar gunwale geometry.

What we can't guarantee is the long-term load path:

  • Top-loaded carts pull on the gunwales and any rails or hardware that happens to be near the clamps
  • Repeated load cycles fatigue HDPE around clamp points
  • Bumps, drops, and side-loads multiply the stress
  • Damage caused by top-loaded carts is excluded from the Cajo warranty (and from Hobie's, Vibe's, and most other kayak manufacturers' warranties)

So if you install a Boonedox on your Outpost 128 and a gunwale cracks two seasons later, that's not a warranty case.

Why the rails situation is its own story

The Outpost 128 and Terra 116 ship with rails secured to brass threaded inserts. Those inserts are strong. So if you attached the Boonedox to the rails (rather than directly to the gunwale plastic), you'd be loading the rail attachment points specifically — and we can't certify how the brass insert / machine screw system holds up under repeated cart-load cycles either, because it wasn't designed for that load case.

What we recommend instead

A bunk-style cart that loads through the bottom of the hull:

  • YakAttack TowNStow — our top recommendation. Padded bunks under the hull, no gunwale stress.
  • YakAttack TowNStow Sand Tire — same cart, sand-tire upgrade for beach use.
  • Railblaza C-Tug — also a bunk-style cart, safe option.

Bottom-loaded means the cart supports the kayak the same way bunks on a trailer would — through the load-bearing channels under the hull, the way the boat is designed to be supported.

If you already own a Boonedox

If the Boonedox is already in your garage and you really want to use it: be careful on bumps, don't load the kayak fully (drive, battery, gear) onto the cart for long ground transport, and inspect your gunwales periodically for hairline cracks. And keep in mind that any damage from the cart isn't a warranty path.
