Track-mount accessories: how to insert on Cajo gear tracks

Top-loading at the key-slot cutouts for standard rail-key accessories. For third-party mounts without a key, insert T-bolts at a 45-degree angle anywhere along the track — no key slot needed.

Two ways, depending on what kind of accessory base you're using.

Method 1 — Top-loading at the key-slot cutouts

Cajo gear tracks (and Quad Rails) have key-slot cutouts at specific points along the track. For accessories with a standard rail-key base — most YakAttack, YakGear, Railblaza, Scotty, and RAM track bases — you:

  1. Find the key-slot cutout on the track
  2. Drop the accessory's rail key into the cutout from the top
  3. Slide the accessory along the track to your desired position
  4. Tighten the locking screw to fix it

This is the fastest install for any accessory with a standard rail-key footprint. Works on Cajo gear tracks across the lineup (Outpost, Terra, Highlander).

Method 2 — T-bolt insertion at 45 degrees (for accessories without a key)

If your accessory uses a T-bolt without a standard rail key, OR if you're trying to add an accessory somewhere on the track where there's no key-slot cutout nearby:

  1. Hold the T-bolt at a 45-degree angle to the track
  2. Insert the T-bolt head into the track channel at that angle
  3. Rotate the T-bolt to vertical — the head locks under the track's lip
  4. Slide to position, tighten

The 45-degree insertion lets you load anywhere along the track without needing a key-slot cutout. That's the trick for third-party accessories or for adding mounts at non-standard positions.

Why both methods exist

The key-slot cutouts are convenient — fast drop-in for standard accessories. But some Cajo tracks have a limited number of cutouts, and you can't add more without machining the track. If a key slot is missing or in the wrong spot for your install, the 45-degree T-bolt method gives you full flexibility.

Which accessories work where

Accessory style Insertion method
YakAttack MightyMount (rail key) Top-load at key slot OR 45° T-bolt anywhere
Railblaza StarPort (rail key) Top-load at key slot
Scotty track adapter (rail key) Top-load at key slot
RAM track base (T-bolt) 45° T-bolt anywhere
Generic third-party T-bolt mount 45° T-bolt anywhere
YakAttack GearTrac-style add-on Top-load at key slot

Common gotcha

If a customer says "the accessory won't drop in" and there's no key-slot cutout right where they're trying to install — they're trying Method 1 in a Method 2 spot. Show them the 45-degree T-bolt trick and they're good.
