Rudder: included with each kayak
Yup — the Traverse Rudder, both foot steering, and the steering handle are included with every rigid Cajo. (A small batch of early Terra kits shipped without the rudder by mistake — if yours is missing, submit a claim and we'll ship one direct.)
Yup — the Traverse Rudder and both foot steering and steering handle are included with all of our rigid kayaks. You don't buy the rudder separately.
What you get in the rudder kit
Every rigid Cajo (Terra 116, Outpost 100, Outpost 128) ships with the full Traverse Fatback Rudder System:
- Rudder blade — fixed to the stern of the kayak
- U-connector — connects the steering handle to the rudder
- Steering cables — route from foot pedals and hand handle down to the rudder
- Foot pedals — built into the Slide Lock foot braces
- Slide Lock foot braces — your foot platform with integrated steering
- Steering handle — hand control at the cockpit
- Deploy / retract cord — pull cord to drop the rudder for the water and lift it for transport or shallow runs
That's the whole steering system. Both hand and foot control are included — you don't need to pick one. Use either or both depending on your fishing style.
If your rudder is missing from the box
A small batch of early Terra and Outpost kits shipped without the rudder and steering handle. This is a known first-run kit issue and we cover it at $0.
What to do: Submit a claim at caminojourney.com/pages/claims-form. Include:
- Your HIN (etched into the stern starboard side of the hull)
- Shipping address
- A photo or quick note that the rudder is missing
We'll coordinate with the dealer you bought from (or ship direct from our TN warehouse if it's faster). No back-and-forth, no hoops.
Also worth knowing
- Foot-steering bolts: A separate first-run batch shipped the rudder kit without the two locking bolts that secure the steering cables on the foot-steering side. They're M5 x 12mm, 316 stainless (truss-head or mushroom-head). If yours is missing those, same claims-form path — we'll ship a set.
- The rudder cable issue: A small early-production batch of steering handles had too much slack in the U-connector cable, which can bind or seize as the handle gets used. If yours stiffens up or starts fraying, claim it — we swap the handle, no DIY fix.
