Kayak arrived without rudder or steering handle
A batch of early Terra and Outpost kits shipped without the rudder and steering handle — file the claims form with your HIN and the dealer you purchased from, and we'll get the missing parts out either direct or through the dealer, whichever is faster.
You're not the only one. A batch of early Terra and Outpost kits shipped without the rudder and steering handle — it's a known issue and we've got the parts ready to go from our TN warehouse.
What to do
Fill out the Claims Form. Include:
- Your HIN (etched on the stern starboard side of the hull) — confirms the kayak's in the affected batch
- Your shipping address and phone number
- The dealer you purchased from — important, see below
- A photo of the box contents when you unpacked, if you took one. Not required, but useful for our QA tracking.
Once that's in, our team will coordinate the replacement — either ship the missing parts direct from our TN warehouse, or work with your dealer, whichever is faster for your location. That call usually comes back within a few business days.
Why dealer info matters here
Some dealers have spare rudder kits on their shelf from the same shipment batch — if yours does, a local pick-up is faster than waiting on parcel transit from Tennessee. If your dealer doesn't have spares (or you're past easy driving distance), we ship direct. The dealer field on the form is what lets us route the fastest path.
What you'll receive
The full rudder kit and/or steering handle that should've shipped with your boat the first time — same SKUs, same hardware, ready to install once you've got the kayak otherwise rigged. The kit includes the rudder blade, U-connector, steering cables, foot pedals (if missing), and the Slide Lock foot brace hardware.
In the meantime
If you have an outing planned and you're hoping to paddle without the rudder, you can — Cajo hulls track well enough for short paddles without rudder steering. But you'll want the full kit installed for pedal-drive use, since the rudder is what gives you directional control while you're pedaling.
